what i find beautiful, i love. and what i love, i find beautiful.

and since "love" is the manifestation of pure spirit, then beauty is what activates this in us

RITUAL • What are your daily inner + outer rituals to cultivate beauty and radiance?

I am extremely protective of my sleep, since I feel (and look) most beautiful after a solid eight hours. My rituals for safeguarding this include, but are not limited too: no screens, texting or email after 10pm, a few chapters of a good novel before bed, minimal to no alcohol consumption, and making sure my cat is fed so he doesn't wake me up in the middle of the night! In terms of a more specific beauty regime, I keep it simple - I use Liz Earle's Cleanse & Polish hot cloth cleanser, tone with organic Rose Water, and am currently using a moisturizer by Tracie Martyn

NOURISH • What are your staples for beauty + wellness + radiance?

It's almost a year since I cut fish and eggs and switched to an almost 100% plant-based diet, and all the niggling digestive (and therefore skin) issues I used to experience "miraculously" cleared up! But I'm not militant about it, since I'm not a fan of absolutes. Like I definitely notice the difference if I slip into a cheese-eating phase, but the sometimes the pleasure outweighs the pimples! My morning smoothie has psyllium husk for extra fiber, and overall my diet includes a LOT of avocados, whole grains, veggies, nuts, tofu and legumes. I also get through liters of soda water with fresh squeezed lime and a pinch of sea salt for extra hydration. I can't really do coffee either, so drink masses of green tea and matcha.

BODY • How do you keep your body healthy, strong, and powerful?

My work is so desk-based that some kind of movement is essential. This looks like (usually on rotation): a 30-minute tabata workout in the park; 30-45 min yoga class on; 45-60 minute speed walk over the Williamsburg bridge into Manhattan. I love them all and listen to my body when it comes to which one it's going to be today.

MIND • How do you stay grounded, confident, and centered in this modern day craziness we call life?

I struggled for years to settle into a regular meditation practice, and recently learned TM - which is what clicked for me. I do two 20 minute sessions per day, and it is BLISSFUL - deeply relaxing physically, and helps me stay aware of negative and anxiety-producing thoughts. Otherwise, I am (healthily) addicted to Alexis Smart's "Unburdened" flower essence blend; I surround myself with people I love and who love me; I am committed to maintaining healthy relationships with my family (since they represent my "foundation"); I say "no" to most social engagements - see above re "extremely protective of my sleep"! Drinking less alcohol (I really don't, but again - no absolutes) has also been HUGE for me, since in my experience, imbibing "spirits" really only disconnects me from my "spirit." And finally, I recently made a pact with the Universe to always follow and act on what my intuition is telling me - no matter what!

SPIRIT • BENSHEN means 'root of the spirit' - how do you root your spirit into your life, which in turn, keeps your body beautiful, healthy, and radiant?

See much of the above! Astrology is also an incredibly important tool for this, since I really see it as a language of symbols that can be used to both express and decipher what's going on - for me, and for the collective - at soul / spirit level. This includes getting regular readings, and always maintaining an awareness about the different phases of the Moon, as well as what's going on in the wider cosmos.
