Kristie Streicher | THE FEATHERED BROW
When I think of beauty, I think of nature. The most beautiful images are the colors outdoors, where life blooms in its natural environment. Beautiful vines from a plant or tree that grow and wrap naturally around their surroundings - usually reaching for the sunlight, their source of energy. I think of the forests of Giant Redwoods that stand rooted so deeply and permeate the air with their delicious fragrance. Because of these images, and countless others, I love the natural, full eyebrow. It just seems to be closer to the way nature intended. I love how the natural character of each persons' brows are uniquely their own.
RITUAL • What are your daily inner + outer rituals to cultivate beauty and radiance?
Oil. I use oil everyday on my hair, skin, and nails. My skin is normally quite dry so I try to protect my skin form the elements with a vitamin E rich oil like my Afore oil- which is Argan oil based with a blend of calming, therapeutical grade essential oils.
NOURISH • What are your staples for beauty + wellness + radiance?
I've tried everything from pescatarian to vegan and I feel and look most radiant when I listen to my body and allow myself to eat what I crave (within reason!). I exercise or find a way to move my body everyday (from running to Pilates) so I can eat what I wish or crave. I'm most happy eating this way. It's so cliché, but everything in moderation, including moderation.
BODY • How do you keep your body healthy, strong, and powerful?
Finding the right balance of work and pleasure. Exercise and rest are important. For so long I thought "productive" meant always keeping busy, but I'm learning to find and enjoy quiet time. I find it helps me to stay strong and focused.
I really enjoy dancing. It's amazingly jubilant and de-stressing. If I'm depressed or sad sometimes I'll put on some afro-beat music, get crazy, and dance it out. It feels tribal - the moves just come to you. It's very liberating. Sometimes its' so powerful it makes me cry.
MIND • How do you stay grounded, confident, and centered in this modern day craziness we call life?
Just reminding myself that tomorrow is another day can be really powerful for me. We sometimes get so caught up in the moment, we mistakenly interpret our feelings as facts. That recognition, and therefore avoiding judgment, can help cultivate empathy.
SPIRIT • BENSHEN means 'root of the spirit' - how do you root your spirit into your life, which in turn, keeps your body beautiful, healthy, and radiant?
I think the answer to that question is precisely what defines us. I wish it was that simple to answer. I think the answer is the key to a successful life, no matter how you define success. It's the reason I work to improve myself everyday. It's a lifelong process, and I start by listening to my own honest feelings and others around me, who I love and trust. I learn through my family, friends, and clients, and especially from my partner David. When you live with the wellbeing of another foremost in your mind, you're kinder to them and ultimately, to yourself. I think that's why David and I were drawn to one another - we effectively doubled each of our life lessons. I hope that learning something new everyday will keep me humble and always wanting to improve.
